Summer 2017 South West Fine Sale Preview
Rachel Littlewood takes a look at the upcoming Summer 2017 Fine Sale, which will
be held on 11th/12th July 2017 at the South West Saleroom Complex in Exeter. The
Fine Art auction has already been attracting significant interest with a wide range
of artefacts on offer. The sale promises strong silver, jewellery, ceramics, pictures,
works of art and furniture sections.
These Seven Elizabeth II Silver and Gilt Champagne Flutes (FS35/4) are being offered
as part of the silver in our Two Day Fine Art Sale starting on 11th July 2017 at
our salerooms in Exeter, Devon.
The Fine Art Auction
to be held 11th/12th July 2017 includes over 1,100 lots of silver, jewellery, paintings,
ceramics, works of art and furniture.
Day One of the sale commences with the silver auction
– seven Elizabeth II silver and gilt champagne flutes by Stuart Devlin
(FS35/4) and one of the first lots to come up, carrying a pre-sale estimate of £1,500-£2,000,
whilst a pair of German
silver figures of knights in armour
(FS35/94), bearing import marks for Adolph Barsach Davis, London 1928 are
inviting bids of £1,200-£1,500.

and has live online bidding support for those unable to attend in person.
There are many highlights within the jewellery auction,
with a good cross section of pieces from various centuries and decades. A 1930s diamond mounted bracelet
(FS35/360) estimated to weigh a total of 35cts including three principal diamonds
each approximately 1.25cts is estimated at £15,000-£20,000, whilst a Jaeger LeCoultre lady's diamond mounted stainless steel Master Compressor automatic wristwatch
(FS35/164) has an estimate of £2,000-£3,000.

There is a Jaeger LeCoultre Lady's Diamond Mounted Stainless Steel 'Master Compressor
Automatic' Wristwatch (FS35/164) amongst the watches.
There are some stunning paintings on offer as the final part of the first day of
the sale with the pictures auction.
An oil on canvas from the studio of Peter Lely (1618-1680) of a recumbent
nude
(FS35/402) is expected to create interest at £8,000-£12,000 and another oil on canvas by Jose Benlliure y Gill (1855–1937)
(FS35/443) depicting St Mark's Square, Venice is inviting bids of £10,000-£15,000.
Day Two of the sale starts with the ceramics auction,
where a large Chinese famille verte bowl (FS35/630)
finely painted with warriors and others figures is estimated at £3,000-£5,000 and
a large Meissen porcelain group of Catherine II of Russia's favourite dog
(FS35/788), modelled after the original by Johann Joachim Kaendler carries a pre-sale
estimate of £3,000-£4,000.
Amongst the oriental ceramics is a large Chinese Famille Verte Bowl (FS35/630),
which carries a £3,000-£5,000 pre-sale estimate.
The fine porcelain includes a large Meissen Porcelain Group of Catherine II of Russia's
Favourite Dog (FS35/788), which is inviting bids of £3,000-£4,000.
In the works of art auction
of the sale there are, as usual, many unique pieces, including a large late 18th/early 19th Century Chinese embroidered panel
(FS35/816), depicting fish, exotic birds and butterflies amongst flowering shrubs.
Measuring 99cm x 63cm, it is expected to fetch £3,000-£5,000.

There is a good selection of clocks on offer too, with a Georgian double fuse ebonised
bell top bracket clock by Nathaniel Style, London
(FS35/944) with an estimate of £1,500-£2,000.
The final auction within the sale includes the furniture, rugs and carpets.

here is a 19th Century Italian scagliola circular table top
(FS35/1091) with inset
watercolour on an early Victorian carved rosewood base, which carries a pre-sale
estimate of £5,000-£7,000 and a pair of early 19th Century Dutch walnut and floral
marquetry standing corner display cabinets
(FS35/1082) with an estimate of £1,500-£2,000.
The Clocks section has this ebonised bell-top Bracket Clock by Nathaniel Style of
London (FS35/944).
A 19th Century Italian Scagliola Circular Table Top (FS35/1091) is inviting bids
of £5,000-£7,000.
The Furniture includes a pair of early 19th Century Dutch Walnut and Floral Marquetry
Standing Corner Display Cabinets (FS35/1082).
