Lot Description
Nathaniel Style, London, an ebonised bell-top bracket clock the eight-day duration, double-fusee movement fully engraved to the backplate with rococo decoration, with the anchor escapement having rise and fall regulation to the pendulum and striking the hours on a bell, the brass break-arch dial having a raised silvered chapter ring engraved with black Roman numerals and outer Arabic five-minute numerals, the matted centre with date aperture and 'false-pendulum' aperture with an engraved rear, with cast-brass spandrels to the four corners, the arch engraved with rococo decoration and with two raised silvered subsidiary dials for 'strike/silent' and regulation, with an inset silvered plaque between engraved with the maker's name Nathl. Style, London, the bell-top ebonised case having curved canted corners, brass fret-work to the front and sides, a brass carrying handle to the top and wooden feet, height 49cm * Biography Nathaniel Style is recorded as working at Wood Street, Cheapside, London becoming free of the Clockmakers Company in 1725 and retiring in 1773.
