Fine Art Auction Pre-Sale Highlights
Rachel Littlewood previews the upcoming Fine Art Auction that has many exciting
highlights, with pieces ranging from silver and jewellery through to stunning pictures
and striking ceramics with the usual panoply of works of art, clocks and fabulous
furniture.
A Diamond Three-stone Ring (FS43/304) offered in our Two Day Fine Art Sale starting
on 9th July 2019 at our salerooms in Exeter, Devon.
Day One of the Fine Art Auction on Tuesday, 9th July 2019 commences with
the silver section, where a set of fourteen 20th Century German sterling silver dinner plates by maker Jakob Grimminger
(FS43/126) are being offered with a pre-sale estimate of £,2500-£3,500; whilst a
20th Century French Christofle silver Renaissance pattern flatware service
(FS43/125), which bears Christofle 925 mark and weighs in total 4892 grms is inviting
bids of £1,500-£2,000.

Jewellery follows on Day One, with a stunning 19th Century heart shaped amethyst and diamond brooch
(FS43/271) being offered at £2,500-£3,500 and a diamond three stone ring
(FS43/304), the total weight of diamonds being 3.3cts, estimated at £4,000-£4,500.

There are many stunning pictures to choose from too, including Moonlit Waves
(FS43/351) by Julius Olsson (1864–1942), an oil on canvas, measuring 60 x 75cm,
which has an estimate of £2,000-£3,000 and Idle Moments
(FS43/383) by Norman Prescott Davies (1862–1915), an oil on canvas, which is signed
and dated 1908 bottom left and carries an estimate of £3,000-£5,000.

The excitement starts again on Wednesday, 10th July 2019 with the ceramics section
of the auction. Highlights include a Chinese famille rose baluster vase with gilt
lion dog handles
(FS43/512), estimated at £2,000-£3,000 and a pair of Sevres porcelain verrieres
(FS43/583), the sides painted with floral bouquets and sprays which carry a pre-sale
estimate of £800-£1,200.

Within the works of art section of the sale, there are many unique and curious items
including a late 15th Century Nottingham alabaster fragment depicting an angel with
a ribbon of verse draped over her body
(FS43/724), estimated at £700-£900 and a mahogany bell-top chiming bracket clock by Richard Day of London
(FS43/791), with an eight day duration movement that is expected to fetch £2,000-£3,000
when it goes under the hammer.
Coming up last on the second day of the auction is the furniture and, again, there
is plenty on offer including an early 18th Century walnut and crossbanded chest
on a stand
(FS43/866), with an estimate of £1,000-£1,200 and an unusual mahogany
'Jupes Patent' circular extending dining table in the Regency taste
(FS43/911) with a segmented flame veneered top, with additional numbered leaves.
The leaves are housed in a rack with brass carrying handles to the sides. The pre-sale
estimate this fabulous piece of furniture is £2,000-£3,000.
