Biography of artist Ben Maile (b 1922)
Ben Maile (b 1922) was born in Northhamptonshire. Maile's family moved to London in 1936 when Ben Maile was fourteen.
Maile joined the RAF, becoming a wireless operator in Bomber Command. He moved to Newquay shortly after 1945 and, self-taught, began painting and exhibiting throughout the West Country.
Maile's work was popularised through coloured reproduction prints. Over time his reputation grew and by 1989. he had an agent in the USA.
Maile continues painting today and spends his time between his Turkish home and the West Country.
