The next Sporting & Collectors Auction at Bearnes Hampton & Littlewood in Exeter is a three day sale (16th-18th November 2021) with over 1,500 lots on offer. The auction includes several large single owner collections as well as many other collections of toys, dolls and collectables.
Within the first day's section of militaria is a single owner collection of swords and uniform that should attract international attention. The splendid condition of the Elizabeth II Royal Horse Artillery, King's Troop other ranks dress uniform and busby (SC35/189), estimate £300-£500*, and the Victorian 1834 pattern Household Cavalry Officers sword (SC35/171) by Henry Wilkinson for JGR Homfray 1st Life Guards, estimate £500-£700*, will surely take them to their upper estimates.
The Battle of Britain period scramble bell (SC35/256) was a surprise find as it had been hanging outside a Devon village cottage for over 20 years! Though weathered, the inscription has survived by being faced towards the wall of the property (and thus hidden from sight) but it will certainly be sought after with its £1,000-£1,500* pre-sale estimate. The success of the last collectors auction has prompted many others to bring in their collections for auction and included in the sale are a 19th century Paul Giffard pneumatic 8mm air rifle (SC35/120), estimate £400-£600*, and a late eighteenth century four barrel flintlock pistol (SC35/158), estimate £600-£800*, from an Exeter collection.
There is also an interesting collection of trophies and medals for Harold Hicks who rode for the Douglas Motorcycle Company, which should attract vintage motorcycle enthusiasts from around the world. Founded in Bristol in 1907 and famous for their horizontally opposed twin cylinder engines, the collection is an important part of the company’s history. The range of items included in the sale is certainly eye opening and informative, it may well be worth looking through the attic or digging out anything unusual. From a good single owner collection of coins, another single owner collection of fountain pens to a large collection of vintage Star Wars toys, the demand and values at auction will certainly be surprising.
