Amethysts in Fine Jewellery Auction

Amethysts are a very well known gem stone. It is the purple/violet variety of the mineral quartz. The colours of amethysts vary from light pink violet to a deep rich purple. Amethysts are reasonably common, making them fairly inexpensive and a widely used stone for jewellery.

The Quarterly Fine Art Sale to be held on 29th April 2014 includes two pieces of jewellery which incorporate amethyst.

The first is anearly 20th Century gold, amethyst and seed pearl heart shaped pendant (FS22/209) of openwork foliate design.

This delicate pendant is expected to fetch between £200 and £300.

The second lot is a late 19th Century gold and ammethyst necklace (FS22/210). It has eleven linked oval stones in foiled backed, cut down collet settings.
