Biography of English clockmaker Samuel Shepley (1749-1780)

Samuel Shepley (1749-1780) was a member of the well-known Stockport clockmaking family working in the area in the 18th century.

Born in 1749, Shepley married Martha Heginbotham in 1755 and is known to have undertaken various works for St Mary's Parish Church including maintaining the clock, having taken over the role from his father in 1753, with his last act before his death in 1780 being to repair the clock and chimes in 1779.
