Biography of painter Pieter Cornelis Dommersen (1834-1908)
Pieter Cornelis Dommersen (1834-1908) (also known as Pieter Christian Dommersen and also by the Dutch spelling Dommershuijzen) was born in the Dutch City of Utrecht. He was a member of a large family of painters.
Dommersen travelled and painted with his son William Raymond Dommersen and his brother Cornelis Christian Dommersen visiting America, Belgium, The Netherlands, Britain and France.
His subjects were diverse: townscapes, marine and riverscapes.
Dommersen moved to England permanently from the Netherlands around 1855. He went on to exhibit at the Royal Academy, Suffolk Street and the British Institution.
