Summer 2014 Period Furniture Auction Preview

The furniture auction within the Summer 2014 Quarterly Fine Art Sale to be held on Wednesday, 9th July 2014 includes a good range of antique and decorative furniture.
Amongst the more traditional furniture is a good section of oak furniture and walnut furniture including an attractive 18th Century oak low boy (FS23/643) with a presale estimate of £900-£1,200. A good oak refectory table in the 17th Century taste (FS23/669) with a later top measuring some 9ft long would suit many a West Country Hall or dining room and is estimate at £2,000-£3,000.
From the same Country House is a matched set of eight 17th Century walnut and tapestry upholstered dining chairs (FS23/670), estimated at £2,500-£3,500.
Amonst the mahogany furniture are two good quality George III mahogany linen presses (FS23/698) and (FS23/711), temptingly estimated at £800-£1,200 and £400-£600 respectively.
For a comfortable armchair, look no further than a Regency mahogany bergere armchair (FS23/724) estimated at £400-£600 or a Wing armchair in the George II style at a modest £200-£300 (FS23/664).
For an elegant hall, a pair of French mahogany rectangular console tables (FS23/749) with white marble tops are expected to realise £3,000-£4,000, whilst A set of six 19th Century Austrian walnut lyre back salon chairs carry a pre-sale estimate of £1,500-£2,000 (FS23/756).
For those looking for an unusual piece of furniture, then there is a late 19th Century oak three fold screen (FS23/768), with painted panels after Thomas Rowlandson depicting 'Doctor Syntax in search of the picturesque'. A highly decorative item well worth the £400-£600 estimate.
Into the 20th Century, there is an Arts and Crafts oak dresser (FS23/779) estimated at £400-£600 and a set of six oak bar stools by the ever popular Robert 'Mouseman' Thompson (FS23/780) at £3,000-£4,000.
Even more up to date is a 1960s cane peacock chair (FS23/778) at £200-£300 and a stylish contemporary tortoiseshell veneered and brass inlaid writing table by Maitland Smith (FS23/781), estimated at £600-£800.
