A Good Scratch Built Electric 4-4-2 Locomotive in LB&SCR Livery (SC23/1007) is being offered in our Two Day Sporting and Collectors Auction that starts on 16th November 2016 our Exeter Saleroom Complex in Devon.

With over 1,200 lots on offer in the next two day Sporting & Collectors Auction at our Exeter saleroom complex, it is always difficult to choose a few highlights from the sale.

The market for militaria, antique weapons and firearms has been strong for a number of years and still proves to be one of the more popular sections of the first day of the sale.

A Remington New Model 1858 5-shot Single Action Pinfire Conversion Revolver, Number 140436 (SC23/106) is being offered as part of our two day Sporting and Collectors Auction in our Exeter Saleroom Complex with live online bidding support.

The Remington New Model 1858 5-shot revolver (SC23/106) is in excellent condition with an original leather holster, but not only that, it is also a cylinder conversion from a percussion cap to a pinfire, making it very desirable to any collector.

A 19th Century Heavy Cavalry Officer's Sword by Colley & Co, London (SC23/151), which carries a pre-sale estimate of £800-£1,200.

The condition of the 19th century Cavalry Officer's sword by Colley & Co (SC23/151) also makes this a sought after piece for buyers around the world. The blade retains much of its original blueing and gilt decoration, something that is becoming harder to find, as well as increasing in price for prime examples.

A matched pair of Victorian Iron Signal Cannon (SC23/251).

If you are looking for a bit more firepower then the pair of 19th century signal cannon (SC23/251) should be an ideal choice. Though having different maker’s initials, they are both dated 1858 and would not look out of place at all beside any large fireplace.

Vintage textiles and costume have been a rising market over the past year as we move into the second half of the second decade of the 21st century. Not only included in this section are a number of Victorian dresses but also pieces from the 1950s through to the distinct shoulder padded 1980s.

An early 19th Century Patchwork Quilt (SC23/431) is inviting bids between £150 and £250.

One piece that does stand out is the early 19th century patchwork quilt (SC23/431), which is not only dated to the front, but has many of the original hand-cut templates to the reverse with handwritten text in places.

Handmade musical instruments have always been popular over the years and even more modern pieces such as the left-handed guitar by Brook of Torridge (SC23/569) shows how much skill and craftsmanship is involved with producing a wonderful instrument.

The second day continues with an extensive collection of toys and trains including a number of good quality scratch built locomotives like the 4-4-2 locomotive in LB&SCR livery (SC23/1007).

It will be interesting to see if, given the post-Brexit climate that has led to Hornby and Darpol announce a 10% rises on their retail prices, whether collectors will turn to the auction market in response, or not.
