Selected Picture Auction: Cedric Chater painting of The Seven Sisters

This attractive oil painting on canvas by Cedric Chater [1910-1978] which is in our selected painting auction on 26th February 2013 (EX63) is expected to fetch interest between £80-£120, when it goes under the hammer at the Okehampton Street Saleroom in Exeter.

Chater worked as a commercial artist and illustrator and in the 1940s and 50s. Cedric Chater designed a number of advertising posters for Imperial Leather.

 

This painting (EX63/72) by Cedric Chater is in the British tradition and is a good period piece from the mid 20th Century. The location is the White Cliffs called The Seven Sisters, near the South Downs National Park between Seaford and Chater’s home which was in Eastbourne, Sussex.
