Samuel Taylor Coleridge Lots for Auction - The Family Bible
Published 13th February 2013
One of the most interesting collections coming up in the Antiquarian book auction on 20th February 2013 at the Honiton Saleroom are eight exciting lots relating to Samuel Taylor Coleridge (1772–1834) which are association copies with signatures and inscriptions of immediate family members.
The most significant of these is his own family bible (BK9/131) which is dated 1790. It bears his signature and genealogical notes in the manuscript hand of Samuel Taylor Coleridge.
Samuel Taylor Coleridge Family Bible
This unique item bears the charming inscription in Coleridge’s hand ‘Given to me by Joseph Cottle after my marriage (signed) S T Coleridge’. Joseph Cottle (1770-1853) was Coleridge’s friend and publisher.
The pre-sale estimate for lot 131 (BK9/131) is £2,000-£3,000, but I will watch with keen interest as to whether this unique lot exceeds these expectations.
