Robert Lenkiewicz Painting for Auction - Part 1 - The Painter with Mary on a Bed by Robert Lenkiewicz

Published 5th March 2013

Bearnes Hampton & Littlewood are the leading auctioneers for Robert Lenkiewicz paintings having sold thousand of works over the last ten years. The market for paintings by Robert Lenkiewicz has gone through some notable highs since the artist died in Plymouth in 2002. The two Lenkiewicz studio sales we held at Westpoint in Exeter saw a frenzy of buying and resulted in world record prices up to £200,000, and sale totals over £3 million. One of the artefacts from the 2004 Lenkiewicz studio sale which was bought for £5800 is being sold again in Exeter. Robert Lenkiewicz worked on a number of major projects which combined thematically linked paintings with research notes and recorded observations with one aim of examining human physiology in a state of crisis.

In 1981 Lenkiewicz embarked on one of his most intense and ambitious human physiology projects, The Painter with Mary Project - A Study in Obsessional Behaviour which was accompanied by a volume of drawings, paintings, observations and notes published as The Mary Notebook. A painted artefact from this project, a model of the Painter with Mary on a Bed, is on the market again in our picture sale on 24th April at our Exeter saleroom when it will be offered with an estimate of £3000-£5000.
