Antique Firearms Auction: The Evolution of the Revolver
Published 15th February 2013
The forthcoming selection of Antique Firearms in Bearnes Hampton & Littlewoods Sporting & Collectors Sale of 20th March 2013, Dowell Street Honiton, East Devon, contains a number of Antique Firearms that illustrate the development of the revolver.
JR Cooper patent six shot underlever pepperbox revolver
The impracticality of muzzle loading restricted the speed at which a weapon could be re-loaded, so more barrels were added. The complications of firing these extra barrels remained problematical until the mid 19th century when JR Cooper patented the ring trigger under lever mechanism, an improvement on the earlier top hammer pepperbox revolvers of the period.
In excellent condition, engraved to the barrel and action, collectors will no doubt be attracted by the condition and the pre sale estimate of £300-£400 for such example of an Antique Firearm at auction.
