Sale Notes
For train enthusiasts, the forthcoming Sporting and Collectors' sale on 19th February 2014 is a veritable feast of delights as two private collections are offered in the sale.
Both collections of OO/HO and O gauge railway total over 350 lots, ranging from later boxed sets locomotives and rolling stock, to the harder to find pieces such as the two Exley LNWR carriages (SC18/789). Bringing back found memories of childhood, the sale is expected to attract national and international bidders via the Internet, eager to complete or even start their own collections.
The sale also has a number of dolls and diecast toys for collectors, which continues to be a strong market.
The medals and militaria section has a strong selection of medals from both World Wars and with the centenary of the out break of WWI this year, the demand from collectors is a poignet reminder of the recipients.
Included among a selection of Hunting and Equestrian collectables are an interesting pair of silver cruets in the form of chicks (SC18/12b) and a cold painted bronze desk tidy of a Woodcock (SC18/5). For those interested in field sports and shooting, these would make ideal gifts, but if you prefer something a little more unusual then why not a set of mounted Mako shark jaws (SC18/34).
Whatever your quirk, the Sporting and Collectors sale is an opportunity to see the varied items that many have hidden in attics and cupboards that could be worth a small fortune.
If there is something we know as auctioneers, it's that no matter if you love it or hate it, someone will collect it.
