The Castle Hill Attic Sale will include items from the attics of Castle Hill, the home of the Earl and Countess of Arran, following a recent reorganisation of attic space at the house. The sale will be followed by the Regular Antiques and Collectables Auction of ceramics, glass, oriental, works of art, books, collectables, pictures and furniture held at our Honiton salerooms.

This auction has 672 fine art lots.

Sale Notes

The Castle Hill Attic Sale promises some unusual lots, just in time for Christmas.

Amongst the lots on offer is a Dagoty Paris porcelain cabinet (HO81/17), finely painted with a scene from the Italian campaign of the Napoleonic wars commemorating the taking of the bridge over the Marezal at Karako. It carries a pre-sale estimate of £500-£700. Also within the ceramics section of the sale, there is a Chinese armorial part dinner service with the arms of Fortescue impaling Dormer with the crest of Fortescue above (HO81/21). Although with damage, this service is inviting bids of £400-£600.

Within the pictures, there is a painting after Rubens (18th/19th Century) of the Holy Family (HO81/76) with an estimate of £400-£600 and a more modestly priced oil on canvas after Gainsborough of The Boy in blue, which is expected to fetch between £200 and £250.

A good early 19th Century steel and cast brass fender (HO81/55) measuring 150cm long has an estimate of £300-£400 and a set of six George III carved mahogany dining chairs in the Chippendale taste (HO81/95) are inviting bids of £800-£1,200. Also within the furniture section of the sale is a 19th Century mahogany rectangular serving table in the Adam taste (HO81/96) with an estimate of £800-£1,200.

There are over one hundred lots in the Castle Hill attic sale, with varying estimates, offering the opportunity to snap up a unique piece of history.

The auction continues with our last Antiques and Collectables Sale to be held at Dowell street in Honiton before relocating to the South West Centre of Auction Excellence at Okehampton Street in Exeter. This part of the auction will offer the usual mixed selection of interesting lots from all categories.

With Christmas almost here and family gatherings to plan, extra tables are always useful (HO81/534) (HO81/516) but don't forget the chairs (HO81/550). After enjoying a tasty Christmas feast, a drink or two over a game of cards using a Regency mahagony card table (HO81/514) ends the day.
