Sale Notes

Please note that this was scheduled for Wednesday, 21st March 2018 but moved because of the bad weather. The printed, page-by-page and PDF catalogues still have the original date.

Bearnes Hampton & Littlewood's additional auction of the 21st March 2018 is a single owner collection of model trains, diecast vehicles, toys and collectables, which includes a wide range of pieces for all enthusiasts.

The highlight of the collection is undoubtedly the 2 inch Scale Burrell Showman's Live Steam Traction Engine 'Thetford Town' (SS05/1450). The precision detailing of the gears, regulators and decoration certainly justify its pre-sale estimate of £8,000-£12,000.

Included in the collection are a number of original boxed Corgi and Dinky vehicles that will be familiar to many collectors, but also included are a good number of foreign makers such as Conrad, Schuco and others.

Among the model trains are a number of Japanese brass models in both OO/HO and O gauge by Tenshodo, KTM (Katsumi) and Sunset Models. Made primarily of the American market, the detailing of the Union Pacific 'Big Boy' 4-8-8-4 locomotive and tender (SS05/1398) should attract international interest from online bidders with a pre-sale estimate of £300-£400.

As well as the trains and cars, there are several model boats in the sale and enthusiasts will probably be keen on the 6ft long radio controlled pond yacht (SS05/1013), probably the largest we have seen at Bearnes Hampton & Littlewood over the years!

Collectors of early tinplate toys and collectables will not be disappointed with the number of American and Japanese toys included in the sale. There are a number of tinplate toys by Louis Marx like the Pan-Am plane (SS05/1555) and the 'Hi-Mac' Automatic GI Dump Truck with Driver (SS05/1578) as well as several Ichiko (Japan) large scale friction drive tinplate Mercedes Benz 300SE (SS05/1520).

If you ever wished to relive your childhood, then this is certainly the sale to do so. With so many original pieces like the Tamiya model kits for the Williams (SS05/1547) and BMW (SS05/1545) racing cars, collectors will be drawn to the salerooms in Exeter on the day.
