Sale FS39; Lot: 0736: Rivers & Son, London, a Georgian ebonised verge bracket clock the eight-day duration, five-pillar movement having a verge escapement and striking the hours on a bell with pull repeat and having a fully engraved backplate, the seven-inch round enamelled dial having black Roman hour numerals, Arabic outer five-minute numerals and signed Rivers & Son, London, with decorative blued steel hands, the ebonised case having a full opening front door with brass fret work below and brass edging, brass side frets, a three-pad top with brass mounts, surmounted by a brass carrying handle and standing on brass bracket feet, height 34cm (handle down): 38cm (handle up). * Biography David Rivers is recorded as working in Sweetings Alley, London being free of the Clockmakers Company in 1766 with the business becoming Rivers & Son in circa 1782 with an address in Cornhill, where they were successors to Daniel de St Jeu, Clockmakers to her Majesty. David died in 1815.
