Lot Description

A rare Chelsea white-glazed model of a red squirrel naturistically modelled with head turned slightly to dexter and tail curled over its back, on rustic mound base, incised triangle period, circa 1745-49, 15cm wide, 9cm high [damage and losses].

Notes

This particular model appears to be unrecorded in the literature. Other known examples of Chelsea squirrels are modelled with the animal seated upright on it's haunches and eating a nut. cf. Elizabeth Adams 'Chelsea Porcelain' page 35 fig.3.20.
