Lot Description

A pair of 'Beilby' white enamelled wine glasses each with round funnel shaped bowl decorated below the rim with a geometric and foliate scroll band, set on a straight double series opaque twist stem containing a pair of eight ply bands around solid spiral threads, on a conical foot, circa 1770, 15cm high.

Sale FS37; Lot: 1049: Payne, London an English boulle-cased bracket clock the eight-day duration, single-fusee timepiece movement having an anchor escapement and engraved to the backplate Payne, 163 New Bond Street, London, the white enamel and cast-brass dial having blue Roman numerals and outer Arabic five-minute numerals to the individual plaques with the centre signed Payne, 163 New Bond Street, London, and having blued-steel decorative hands, the waisted boulle case of red tortoiseshell inlaid with engraved brass along with two birds and two snails of inlaid mother-of-pearl, with applied ormolu mounts and surmounted by the figure of an eagle, height 55cm * Biography William Payne was a well-known maker in the Victorian period and is recorded as working at 163, New Bond Street, London from 1826 until 1851 and then as Payne & Co until at least 1875. He previously worked in various addresses in the West End of London from 1811.
