Notes

There is an artist's card affixed to the reverse of the picture which reads as follows: 'The War did not end at Christmas as everyone had hoped, so Father said that we'd better get off quickly to Blackpool to see Grandpa before petrol got scarce, but, just as we were turning out of Oldham Road into Piccadilly we saw Uncle John and his family driving past in his new Dodge. Uncle John saw us and pulled up in front of Lewis's and waited for Father, Father's face got redder and redder and when we pulled up next to Uncle John, Father and he had a frightful row. Uncle John said he was going to Blackpool also, Father said he wasn't because we couldn't all stay with Grandpa. However Uncle John, Aunt Josephine and our three cousins got some rooms nearby, and in spite of Father's bad temper, we all enjoyed ourselves and the year was Spring 1915.'.
