Sale Notes
The next Fine Sale at Bearnes Hampton & Littlewood has the most attractive jewellery offering seen for some time with well over one hundred lots notably led by two Patek Phiippe wristwatches and two diamond solitaires estimated in excess of £5,000-£7,000.
The Works of Art section contains a time keeper of a far less portable nature in the form of a perpetual calendar mantel clock with moonphase, thermometer and barometer in an ‘Egyptian’ black marble case. The section also boasts a good collection of coins, that includes three 1847 Gothic Crowns, two pieces of Chinese cinnibar lacquer and a carved jade mountain that looks to have potential.
Staying in Egypt, there is a competent sketch of the Nile by Edward Lear, estimated at £1,500-£2,500, whilst more readily known for his nonsense verse, his topographical watercolours are keenly competed for. Mr Punch might be another figure of fun, evolving from the Italian Commedia del’Arte character Pulcinello, but painted on a rare Lambeth delft dish, you would have to be very serious about owning it with an estimate of £4,000-£6,000. If that seems a little out of your price range then there are a number of children’s or nursery plates on offer with far more modest estimates.
