Thos. Langford, London, an 18th century mahogany bracket clock the eight-day duration, five-pillar double-fusee movement, now with an anchor escapement, having c-scroll and floral engraving to the backplate and striking the hours on a bell, the eight-inch break-arch brass dial having a raised silvered chapter ring engraved with black Roman numerals and outer five-minute outer Arabic markings, the centre with a subsidiary date dial and engraved with the maker's name Thos. Langford, London, the arch with a silvered strike/silent dial and all with gilt-metal cast c-scroll and floral spandrels, with blued steel hands, the bell-top mahogany case with inset brass fretwork to the top corners, brass acorn finials to the top, a brass carrying handle, glazed side panels and standing on brass bracket feet, height 51cm, not including handle.

Notes

Thomas Langford is recorded as becoming free of the Clockmakers Company in 1781 and took on a number of apprentices in the following years including William Whitaker and John Clark.
