An early 18th century sealed magnum onion wine bottle, previously unrecorded the dark green glass of generous globular form with raised tapering neck, string rim and shallow 'kick up', the shoulders applied with the seal of the Swete family, bearing two chevrons, between two mullets in chief with a rose at base, circa 1710-20, 24cm high.

Lot Description

An early 18th century sealed magnum onion wine bottle, previously unrecorded the dark green glass of generous globular form with raised tapering neck, string rim and shallow 'kick up', the shoulders applied with the seal of the Swete family, bearing two chevrons, between two mullets in chief with a rose at base, circa 1710-20, 24cm high.

Provenance

The Bottle Comes By Direct Family Decent. The Swete Family Are Recorded At Traine In Devonshire From The Late 15th Century And The Arms Depicted Are Still Displayed Above The Entrance To Traine Walk, Brownston Street, Modbury, Devon. This Bottle And The Following Bladder Wine Bottle Were Discovered At Traine House Shortly Before It's Sale In 1967.
