J &.S. Farr, Bristol - a mahogany bell-top bracket clock with an eight-day duration, double-fusee movement with anchor escapement striking the hours on a bell, the seven-inch arched painted dial having black Roman numerals, decorative blued steel hands and indistinctly signed 'JS Farr, Bristol', with a 'strike/silent' dial to the arch, the mahogany bell-top case having a brass handle and four ball finials to the top, brass inset corners, cast-brass fretwork to the front and glazed sides, standing on cast bracket feet, height: 37cm * Probably John & Stephen Farr, members of the Farr family of Bristol clockmakers, who were apprenticed to their father Stephen in August 1812 and who worked together at his shop in Tower Lane until 1822 having both been made Burgesses of the City in March 1820.
