Sale Notes

Among the items on offer in Bearnes Hampton & Littlewood's forthcoming Antiques & Interiors Auction are several pieces that are instantly recognisable to many, as well as some more unusual pieces.

The bright vibrant colours of this Clarice Cliff 'Gayday' vase are what has made Clarice Cliff so instantly recognisable over the years and even though perhaps a more common design, a pre-sale estimate of £60-£80 (Buyer's premium 21% plus VAT @ 20%) should attract a lot of interest.(EX220/31).

Rory Dobner may not be a name that is quite so recognisable to many, but that's what make auctions so interesting. The small handmade sculpture of 'Oswald' is an early piece by a contemporary artist who has had commissions by Christian Dior, Fortnum & Mason as well as Nike. His designs are currently being sold by Liberty's in London, so this could be chance to acquire an early piece that potentially could be a great investment.

As the auction market has moved to more modern designers and vintage or retro pieces to fit with 21st century interior design, there is a fantastic opportunity to obtain some more traditional pieces at a reasonable price. For instance, this Worcester porcelain jardinière (EX220/69) in the form of an elephant after Hadley is certainly very 'traditional' in terms of antiques and with an estimate of £40-£60 (Buyer's premium 21% plus VAT @ 20%) should be very sought after. Likewise, the small bronze cherub (EX220/30)  is a wonderful piece of sculpture that would make a statement piece as an accessory to dress any modern home, with a pre-sale estimate of £60-£80 (Buyer's premium 21% plus VAT @ 20%) (EX220/345) it shows that auctions are the place to find that something special that you wouldn't find on the high street.
