Sale Notes

Our next Antiques and Interiors Auction is on Tuesday, 14th April 2015 and includes another good selection in keeping with the current market for antiques, works of art and collectables.

Lot 278, the octagonal Art Deco style clock which has an estimate of £50-£70, ticks all the boxes in terms of style and 'look'. It was produced by the Smith's Electric Clock Company and has a Bakelite movement and chrome hands which are enclosed within a tinted and mirrored glass case.

Among the rest of the clock is an early 20th Century French carriage timepiece, which is estimated £150-£200.

Often over shadowed by Clarice Cliff and Susie Cooper when it comes to art pottery, Charlotte Rhead was a talent in her own right and part of three generations of the same family who were involved in pottery design and decoration. Her particular forte was in the difficult art of tube-lining, which was a means of drawing onto pots with liquid slip contained in what looked like a small icing bag. There are over fifteen lots in this sale with estimates from £40-£300.

For collectors is a Dunhill 'Unique' lighter together with a similar zippo-type silver lighter which date from the early 20th Century and have an estimate of £20-£40 and a J Heeley & Sons Weir's Patent steel concertina corkscrew with an estimate of £80-£120.

Our recent Lenkiewicz Legacy Auction has helped liven-up the Lenkiewicz market and through the remainder of the year we expect to be regularly offering original works by the artist. There are a number of Lenkiewicz watercolours in this sale and also a small oil portrait of a Man in an Interior, which was bought in 2004 at our Lenkiewicz Studio Sale at Westpoint. The estimate here is £150-£250.

The Welsh carved oak spinning chair is traditional provincial furniture, which is nice quality and interesting and has an estimate of £20-£40.

Among the section of oriental porcelain and works of art are a pair of brightly coloured and highly decorated Chinese pedestal dishes with peony scroll decoration estimated at £180-£220 and also a Japanese red lacquered stacking box with loop handle which has an estimate of £50-70.
