Sale Notes

The next Antiques & Collectors sale of 4th February 2014 at our Exeter salerooms has several examples of some of the best known names in English pottery and porcelain.

Many will be familiar with Royal Doulton and the figures of well-dressed ladies of fashion, but among their range are also the figures The Boy Evacuee HN3202 and The Girl Evacuee HN3203, numbered 6142/9500 and 1328/9500 (EX85/30). These figures are not seen so often at auction and this is reflected by their estimate of £300-£400.

Royal Worcester has developed many styles and designs throughout the factories long history and had many notable artists such as the vase painted by Walter Sedgley (EX85/46) of slender baluster form set on four feet enamelled with pink and red roses on an ivory ground and with foliage verso. With an estimate of £80-£120, it is an opportunity for collectors to acquire a modest piece to begin a collection of Worcester.

In contrast to the above a Worcester First Period cabbage-leaf mask jug of large size, transfer printed in blue with the Pine Cone pattern, open crescent mark, circa 1770 (EX85/57) appeals to those interested in the factory's early days. The estimate of £200-£300 reflecting the desirability of these pieces.

But for those who interested in other areas, the sale has a good selection of clocks, works of art and pictures as well as Oriental works of art.
