Sale FS39; Lot: 0742: William Johnson, Strand, London a mahogany regulator the eight-day duration, five pillar timepiece movement having a dead-beat escapement, maintaining power, a mercury-filled jar to the compensating pendulum and brass-bound weight, the twelve-inch, round silvered dial with typical regulator layout of minutes to the outer aspect and two subsidiary dials showing seconds and hours to the centre, and signed Wm. Johnson, Strand, London, the mahogany dome-topped case having a full opening glazed door, canted corners, raised moulding to the base and standing on bracket feet, height 183cm * Biography A number of makers by the name of William Johnson are recorded as working in London, with the most likely maker of this regulator being the William recorded as having premises in the Strand from circa 1825 until 1840.
