SUFFRAGETTE Archive ... including a four page 'In Memoriam' for Emily Wilding Davison (1913) Seven suffragette broadsides and leaflets, including two on forcible feeding, and one of twelve pages about police brutality (1911) with a ten page typescript for the memorial service for Millicent Garrett Fawcett (1929)and other ephemera relating to the service; with broadsides and leaflets for the National Union of Societies for Equal Citizenship, including their 'Manifesto to the Women Voters of Great Britain'. Seven copies of 'The Woman's Leader' newspaper (1928/9); with a series of correspondence mainly from Ray Strachey (wife of Oliver Strachey) to Miss IK Hancock, regarding parliamentary elections, and the NUSEC.

Notes

Emily Wilding Davison was killed throwing herself in front of the King's horse. (a lot).

Sale FS41; Lot: 0891: The Waltham Watch Co, a boxed 'chronometer' the eight-day duration movement having a lever escapement with a split-bimetallic balance, Brequet overcoil hairspring and keyless winding, with engine-turned decoration to the nickel-plated backplate stamped Waltham Watch Co 8 Days, 15 Jewels Adjusted, 22192011 and set within a brass gimbal, the round matt-silvered dial having black Roman numerals, a subsidiary seconds dial, a 'up-and-down' state of wind dial and signed Waltham, with blued steel spade hands, having a three-tier brass-bound mahogany box, the inside lid having pasted within a Waltham rating sheet from March 1924 stating Performance of Waltham 8 Day Lever Escapement Chronometer at Room Temperature and giving details of the performance over 26 days with a repeat of the clock number 22192011, dimensions 13cm x 13cm x 13cms.

Sale FS41; Lot: 0905: A London style mahogany longcase clock having an eight-day duration movement with a half-dead beat escapement and striking the hours on a gong, the twelve-inch brass break-arch dial having a raised silvered chapter ring engraved with black Roman numerals and Arabic five-minute outer numerals, the matted centre having an inset silvered subsidiary seconds dial and date aperture, with the arch having a silvered 'strike/silent' dial, with oriental style cast-brass corner spandrels to the four corners and dial, the mahogany case having a shaped stepped moulding to the trunk door, fluted quarter columns to the trunk with brass stops and cast-brass capitals, with the hood having matching full pillars and surmounted by a pagoda top with carved wood flame finials, the base having a shaped raised panel, a double plinth and standing on bracket feet, height 246cms.
