Sally Bartlett grew up in Rochester in Kent and moved to Dorset on leaving Rochester Grammar School with A-levels in English Literature and French Literature. Sally, whose family roots are in the West Country, remarks that it was: "good to be home". Sally had already developed an interest in antiques and collectables at an early age. Realising that she would need to learn office skills to gain employment in the antiques industry, her first job was with an estate agents and auctioneers, but it wasn't long before she became involved in the auction side of the business and started to increase her fine art and antiques knowledge.

Sally Bartlett subsequently worked for Lawrence's Fine Art in Crewkerne for five years, progressing from administration to cataloguing the whole spectrum of antiques and dealing with clients. She branched out in the 1980s to run her own auction brokering business called Eden Fine Art Consultants, having premises in Bridport in Dorset. An association was soon formed between Sally's firm and Bearne's in Torquay, which flourished.

Sally Bartlett now works as Bearnes Hampton & Littlewood's Dorset representative, advising clients old and new across Dorset. She has introduced clients such as the Knigthsmith family from Norburton Hall in Burton Bradstock. Bearne's sold the main contents of this house in the early 1990s. She was also instrumental more recently in the sale of the main contents of Anchor House, also in Burton Bradstock, for the Chanin family.

The most exciting find in recent years was a Chinese vase in 2002, which had been in a Dorset bungalow for many years, unrecognised as an exquisite work of art. The vase was sold for £110,000 at the Okehampton Street salerooms in Exeter. Also from Dorset have been a Chinese Cinnabar Lacquer box and cover that sold for £44,000 and a Chinese jade boulder carving that reached £40,000.
