Rachel Littlewood previews the final Fine Art Auction of 2019, which will be held on Tuesday/Wednesday, 15th/16th October 2019. The sale has some stunning jewellery as well as the usual wide range of lots, including a piece with Samual Taylor Coleridge connections.

The last Fine Art Sale of 2019 has some superb highlights on offer on 15th/16th October 2019.

In the silver auction, a set of fourteen 20th Century German sterling silver dinner plates (FS44/111) by the maker Jakob Grimminger stamped sterling and weighing 251.28ozs are estimated at £1,500-£2,500; whilst Victorian silver wine ewer by the maker Henry Wilkinson & Co, Sheffield 1855 (FS44/140) of ovoid form with hinged lid, scroll handle and banded decoration of grape, vine and acanthus leaves is estimated at £500-£700.

The jewellery auction follows with a pair of diamond pendant drop earrings (FS44/230), each with a lower brilliant cut diamond drop of 1.91cts and 1.86cts. The total weight of the diamonds in this impressive pair of earrings is 10.06cts and they are being sold complete with a certificate from GCS, London, stating that one of the marquise cut diamonds weighs 1.02cts, is F colour and Si1 clarity. The pre-sale estimate is £12,000-£14,000.

A Malcolm Betts platinum, yellow metal and diamond necklace (FS44/239) is also expected to create interest. The oval diamond is stated to weigh 2.14cts and the necklace is being sold with the original Malcolm Betts fitted case and two copies of the original invoice. The Malcolm Betts invoice copy states '22ct gold hammered link necklace with platinum diamond clasp'. This unique piece carries a pre-sale estimate of £7,000-£9,000.

The final section of the sale on Day One sees the paintings being sold. An oil on canvas by Sir Matthew Smith (1879–1959) (FS44/327) of a Seated Girl, measuring 62 x 52cm is expected to sell well with a pre-sale estimate of £8,000-£12,000; whilst a stunning pair of oils on canvas by John W Morris (c1865–1924) titled The Day's Bag, A Loyal Team (FS44/442) are being offered with a pre-sale estimate of £3,000-£5,000.

Day Two of the sale commences with the ceramics and glass auction. A pair of large Canton famille rose enamel baluster vases (FS44/513) with gilt double lion dog handles and applied with sinuous chilong to the shoulders, brightly enamelled overall with panels depicting court scenes, exotic birds and butterflies are being offered at £3,000-£5,000 and a large Meissen model of a parrot (FS44/615) dating from circa 1860/80 is inviting bids of £1,000-£1,500.

In the works of art auction within the sale, a Victorian carved white marble figure 'Rebecca' by William Theed (British; 1804-1891) (FS44/757) is amongst the wide variety of lots on offer. 'Rebecca' is draped in a robe and holding a water pitcher supported on a palm tree trunk. Inscribed 'Rebecca' and signed 'W Theed, SC 1881', the pre-sale estimate is £3,000-£5,000, whilst an Art Deco period bronze and ivory figure of Beethoven (FS44/765) wearing a frock coat with hat and walking cane is estimated at £400-£600.

In the furniture auction of the sale, an unusual Holm oak Quercus Ilex rectangular settle of Coleridge interest in the Arts and Crafts manner (FS44/840) is sure to create interest. It has the provenance of being from Chanters House, Ottery St Mary and was sold in the Sothebys sale in 2006. The pre-sale estimate is £2,000-£3,000; whilst a French Charles X gilt metal mounted burr maple bookcase (FS44/946) is inviting bids of £2,000-£3,000.
