April 2017 Fine Art Auction Preview
Rachel Littlewood previews the April 2017 Fine Art Auction, which has over a thousand
fine art lots, including a portrait thought to be of Therese Freifau Von Bethmann
by Franz Xaver Winterhalter (1805-1873).
Franz Xaver Winterhalter (1805-1873): A Portrait of A Lady (thought to be Therese
Freifrau Von Bethmann, nee Freiin Vrints V Treuenfeld) (FS34/593) offered in our
Two Day Fine Art Sale starting on 11th April 2017 at our salerooms in Exeter, Devon.
Day One of the April 2017 Fine Art Sale starts on 11th
April 2017 with silver,
jewellery
and paintings.
Highlights of the first day include a pair of George II silver sugar casters
(FS34/191) (maker Joseph Sanders, London 1735) with a pre-sale estimate of £2,500-£3,500,
a pear shaped diamond and ruby cluster ring
(FS34/418) estimated at £7,000-£9,000 and a portrait of a lady, thought to be Therese Freifrau von Berthmann
(FS34/593) by Franz Xaver Winterhalter (1805–1873) at £30,000-£50,000.
A pair of George II Silver Sugar Casters, crafted by Joseph Sanders of London in
1735 (FS34/191) is being offered in the auction, which has online bidding support.
A Pear-shaped Diamond and Ruby Cluster Ring (FS34/418) is inviting bids of £7,000-£9,000.
Day Two of the sale on 12th April 2017 commences with the ceramics
where a fine
pair of Flight, Barr and Barr (Worcester) two handled urns
(FS34/844) are being offered at £3,000-£5,000.
In the works of art
section, an Art Deco figure The Dancer of Lebanon by Demetre H Chiparus (1886-1947)
is expected to create significant interest at £4,000-£6,000 and in furniture,
the final section of the sale, a Shapland and Petter, Barnstaple
Arts and Crafts oak settle
(FS34/1281) the back with serpentine top rail and inset copper panel 'Welcome ever
Smiles' is estimated at £3,000-£4,000.
The ceramics section includes a fine pair of Flight, Barr & Barr (Worcester) Two-handled
Urns (FS34/844).
An Art Deco Figure 'The Dancer of Lebanon' (FS34/1053) by Demetre H Chiparus (1886-1947)
is included in
the Works of Art section of the Fine Sale.
The Furniture section includes an Arts and Crafts oak settle (FS34/1281) by Shapland
and Petter of Barnstaple.
