Just under 100 lots of miniatures, small portraits and historical engravings from a single owner collection make-up the first part of the Antiquarian Books, Maps & Prints Sale on Wednesday, 21st September 2016.

There is a full-length small watercolour portrait of the young Turkish boy, Mustapha Ali (BK16/47), which has a strong attribution to Thomas Charles Wageman (1787-1683). This image is the frontispiece to the 5th Earl of Harrington's book entitled Greece 1823-1824, A Series of Letters and Documents on the Greek Revolution.

The strength of the collection is 19th Century portraiture and a good example is a pair of three-quarter length portraits (BK16/67) by Firmin Salabert of a husband and wife, which is estimated at £100-£150.

Another good example by Rossi is a half-length portrait of a young lady (BK16/45) that is estimated at £30-£50.

The watercolour Mustapha Ali (BK16/47) attributed to Thomas Charles Wageman (1787-1863) carries
        a pre-sale estimate of £400-£600.

There are also miniature copies of important historical portraits including Nelson (after Lemuel Francis Abbot), together with Napoleon and one other high ranking French officer (BK16/30), with an estimate of £80-£120

A group of four 19th Century small portraits of young men (BK16/48) with an estimate of £150-£200 and a group of four miniature portraits of young ladies (BK16/22), estimated at £120-£180, is also being offered in the auction.

There is a very collectable miniature portrait of a black collie dog called Dicky (BK16/21) together with small a portrait of a Labrador dog called Miller with an estimate of £30-£50.

Keeping with the pet theme, there is a miniature of a young lady with a pet parrot (BK16/20), which carries a pre-sale estimate of £30-£50.

The sale starts at 10am on Wednesday, 21st September 2016.
