Rachel Littlewood previews the two day Summer 2014 Fine Sale, which will be held at our South West of England saleroom complex in Exeter on 8th/9th July 2014. The sale has a wide range of fine art on offer.

The Summer 2014 Fine Art Sale to be held on 8th/9th July 2014 at the Auction Rooms, St Edmunds Court, Okehampton Street, Exeter offers a wide range of items.

Day One of the two day auction starts off with the silver auction of which there are some 144 lots. Highlights include a George V silver rose bowl by the maker Horace Woodward & Co of London in 1913 (FS23/25), which is estimated at £400-£500.

Within the jewellery and watches auction of the sale there is plenty on offer. A Baume and Mercier lady's 18ct white gold wristwatch (FS23/158) has an estimate of £1,500-£1,600 and a gentleman's stainless steel Oyster Perpetual 660ft 200m Submariner wristwatch (FS23/161) is estimated at £1,500-£1,800.

An unusual pair of diamond set double clip brooches of stylised ribbon design (FS23/168) mille grain set with circular, brilliant cut diamonds and baguette cut diamonds has an estimate of £1,500-£1,600 and a sapphire and diamond line bracelet (FS23/188) with circular old brilliant cut diamond single stone panels between square cut sapphires has an estimate of £2,500-£3,500.

Also within the jewellery auction of the sale is a diamond five stone ring (FS23/207) with graduated old brilliant cut diamonds, which carries a pre-sale estimate of £1,800-£2,000.

Still to come on day one is the picture auction. A William Russell Flint (1880-1969) being an illustration of Mallory's Morte d'Arthur (FS23/245), signed and dated is estimated at £3,000-£5,000. There is a charming painting by Samuel Lamorna Birch (1869-1955) entitled My Studio Garden (FS23/246). Being an oil on canvas and inscribed on reverse 'The Making of a Garden, Lamorna' it carries a pre-sale estimate of £2,000-£3,000.

Also within the picture auction of the sale is a painting by Thomas Sidney Cooper RA (1803–1902) that depicts recumbent ewes and a standing ram in a meadow landscape (FS23/290), with cattle grazing in the distance. The estimate is £2,000-£3,000. A Venetian canal scene by Bouvard (19th/20th Century) (FS23/293) has a pre-sale estimate of £2,500-£3,500.

There are several Robert O Lenkiewicz (1941–2002) paintings in the sale including The painter with Fiorella (FS23/297). Signed twice and an oil on canvas, this painting is expected to fetch between £8,000 and £10,000.

Day Two of the sale starts off with the ceramics and glass auction. A Chinese blue and white bowl (FS23/329) with six character Kangxi mark carries a pre-sale estimate of £500-£700, whilst a Chinese armorial part tea and coffee service (FS23/334) is expected to fetch between £600 and £800. Also within this section of the sale is a pair of Chinese blue and white bottle vases (FS23/347), each with pear shaped body and waisted slender neck. Measuring 19cm high, this pair of vases is estimated at £1,000-£1,500.

A Spode Indian Sporting Series mazarine or strainer (FS23/390) of oval pierced form printed in blue with 'Dooreahs leading out dogs' is expected to fetch between £500 and £600 and a massive Staffordshire pearlware jar (FS23/391) measuring 55cm high has a pre-sale estimate of £800-£1,200.

A rare Royal Doulton figure The Little Land HN 63 (FS23/398) modelled after the original by Harry Tittensor with a seated sleeping barefoot child in a lilac spotted dress has an estimate of £1,500-£2,000 and a Meissen 'Apple Tree' group (FS23/433) after the original by JJ Kandler and FE Meyer is estimated at £400-£600.

There is a large selection of lots in the works of art and clocks auction that follows on from the ceramics section of the sale.

Highlights include a Louis Vuitton Encyclopaedia Britannica case (FS23/456) with printed canvas and leather bound exterior, which is expected to fetch £400-£600, and a Louis Vuitton suitcase (FS23/459) with printed canvas and leather bound exterior, serial number 846650, which has a pre-sale estimate of £1,200-£1,500.

The auction concludes with the fine furniture auction.

In the oak furniture section of the sale is a 17th Century oak court cupboard (FS23/668), which is inviting bids of £1,500-£2,000 and an oak refectory table in the 17th Century taste (FS3/669), which has a pre-sale estimate of £2,000-£3,000.

A matched set of eight 17th Century and later walnut dining chairs (FS23/670) carry a pre-sale estimate of £2,500-£3,500 and a George I walnut and crossbanded tallboy (FS23/699) has a pre-sale estimate of £4,000-£6,000.

Finally a set of six 'Mouseman' oak bar stools by Robert Thompson of Kilburn (FS23/780), each stool carved with the mouse has an estimate of £3,000-£4,000.
