Review of the Final Sale at Honiton
The final sale to be held at our Honiton salerooms before the business is moved
into our recently extended South West of England auction complex in Exeter was a
roaring success. The auction included the Castle Hill Attic Sale, which proved exciting,
as did the presence of Bargain Hunt and its presenter Tim Wonnacott.

The final sale to be held at our
Dowell Street auction rooms in Honiton
promised to include some exciting finds and it did not disappoint. The inclusion
of the
Castle
Hill Attic Sale
and the presence of Bargain Hunt all contributed to making it a fun packed day.
Chris Hampton,
Managing Director of Bearnes Hampton & Littlewood, took to the rostrum to sell
the Castle Hill Attic Sale items amongst which there were some very good prices
achieved.
The top lot from the Castle Hill Attic Sale was a set of six George III carved mahaogany
dining chairs in the Chippendale taste (HO81/95), which attracted a winning bid
of £4,000.
The top lot of the day was for a set of
six carved mahogany dining chairs in the
Chippendale taste
(HO81/95), which sold for £4,000. Another item from the Castle Hill Attic Sale which
exceeded all expectations was the
central gilt metal column from a chandelier
(HO81/50) which created a great deal of interest. With wrythen urn and acanthus
scroll ornament, a pair of gilt metal twin branch wall appliqué with drapery
hung urn and Chinese mask and husk garland, this unusual piece sold for £3,600.
This central gilt metal column from a chandelier that came from Castle Hill (HO81/50),
the historical home of The Earl and Countess of Arran, surpassed all expectations
to achieve £3,600.
In the ceramic section of the Castle Hill Attic Sale, the highlight was a
Dagoty
Paris porcelain cabinet plate
(HO81/17), finely painted with a scene from the Italian campaign of the Napoleonic
Wars commemorating the taking of the bridge over the Marezal at Karako. This again
exceeded expectations to go under the hammer for £2,000.
The ceramics highlight in the Castle Hill Attic Sale was without doubt this Dagoty
Paris porcelain cabinet plate (HO81/17), which realised £2,000.
Brian Goodison-Blanks, who had been involved
with the filming with Tim Wonnacott for BBC Bargain Hunt then
took to the rostrum to sell the Bargain Hunt lots and the many other lots on offer.
A 19th Century French Brass and Champleve Enamel Clock Garniture (HO81/362), which
was sold as part of the regular antiques and collectables auction, sold for £600.
Highlights of this section of the sale included a
19th Century tortoiseshell brise
fan
(HO81/355) which sold for £820 and a 19th Century French brass and champlevé
enamel clock garniture
(HO81/362) which realised £600.
The sale was extremely well attended and the trays of mince pies on offer were soon
to disappear!
