Nye Fine Furniture Auction I Preview
Rachel Littlewood previews the first of two sales dispersing the Nye Furniture Collection.
The Nye Collection of Fine Furniture was built up by the late Paul Nye. The July
2013 sale comprises the first 137 lots to be offered and will be held at our Honiton
Salerooms with full online bidding support. The second auction will be in October
2013.
An early 19th century oak dresser (SF18/1002) from The Nye Collection. The Nye Collection
is being dispersed over two sales, the first of which is being held in Honiton in
Devon on 5th July 2013. The second sale will be in October 2013.
The first installment of the
Nye Collection,
which is being sold on Friday, 5th July 2013 at our
Honiton Salerooms
through our busy
furniture department,
offers a vast array of fine pieces, totalling 137 lots. There are many highlights
in the
sale.
A 19th century oak breakfront libray bookcase (SF18/1003) from The Nye Collection.
Both sales will have full online bidding support over the Internet.
In the oak section of the sale, there is an
early 19th Century oak dresser
(SF18/1002) with an estimate of £800-£1,000, a 19th Century oak breakfront library
bookcase
(SF18/1003), measuring a whopping 241cm wide that has an estimate of £800-£1,000
and an
18th Century oak and mahogany crossbanded housekeepers cupboard,
which is estimated at £3,000-£4,000 (SF18/1004). Also, there are a pair of
Regency pollard oak
rectangular card tables in the manner of George Bullock,
which are expected to fetch £6,000-£8,000 (SF18/1005).
This 18th century oak and mahogany crossband housekeeper's cupboard carries a pre-sale
estimate of between £3,000 and £4,000 (SF18/1004).

Certainly, one of the largest pieces in this sale is the set of
Victorian mahogany pharmacy cabinets
by John Curtis & Son of Leeds (SF18/1056). They comprise a long run in two sections,
each of twenty seven drawers and twelve large drawers.

(SF18/1056), estimated at between £4,000 and £6,000 that will be auctioned on 5th
July 2013 in Honiton.
The frieze is inscribed Proprietor of Hackets Glycerine of Roses, Vegetable pills
Blood purifier and Patent Medicines. The rear of the cabinet is stamped
John Curtis and Son, Shopfitters, Wade Street and Wade Lane, Leeds. This
impressive set of pharmacy cabinets carry a pre-sale estimate of £4,000-£6,000.
A pair of Art Deco oak adjustable armchairs, £200-£300 (SF18/1066), comprise some
of the art deco furniture within the Nye Collection.
