Pierre Bittar (b 1904)

Biography of French artist Pierre Bittar (b 1934)

Pierre Bittar (b 1924) was born in France in 1934. His father was a musician and his mother a descendant of the House of Savoie.

As a child, Pierre Bittar's parents encouraged him to draw and colour and from the 1940s he visited museums and painted, studying techniques of the great masters. Among his most influential artists were Rembrandt, the Impressionist painters and Monet in particular.

Pierre Bittar continued his studies at the Academie Leonard de Vinci until 1956.

Bittar painted plein-air in the company of his professor and began to paint portraits using himself and his mother as subjects.

In 1963, Bittar had the first of many international exhibitions at the Potterat Gallery in Lausanne, Switzerland.
