Biography of artist Geoffrey Key (b 1949)
Geoffrey Key (b 1949), painter and sculptor, was born in Manchester, attended art college there and was tutored by Ted Roocroft and Harry Rutherford.
Key became Head of Art at Broughton School before becoming a full-time artist.
Key was elected to The Manchester Academy of Fine Arts in 1968, which was followed by a number of corporate and major commissions in the United Kingdom and Europe.
Key visited Hong Kong in the 1990s, where he exhibited at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel, which proved to be a catalyst in the change in the use of colour in his work.
