With strong sales for the start of 2012, Bearnes Hampton & Littlewood's Honiton saleroom rounds off the first quarter of the year with a sale of Antiques and Selected Silver and Jewellery on 13th March 2012.
The sale includes a large single owner collection of Victorian desk seals and Victorian dip pens. Many of the examples are agate seals and hardstone seals with engraved armorials and monograms. The pens include Victorian ivory and silver examples that should attract a great deal of attention from collectors. Estimates range from £80-£100 for two ivory desk seals to £200-£300 for a collection of thirteen Victorian Silver dip pens.
Included in the jewellery section is a 9ct gold half hunter pocket watch on an 18ct gold watch chain with bloodstone and George III guinea fob (Est £900-£1,300). Also a ruby, sapphire and diamond mounted double heart motif ring with brilliant cut stones (Est £450-£550).
A Victorian silver two handled cup and cover engraved for St Micheal's College, Lyme Regis and dated London 1889 should reach its pre-sale estimate of £400-450, amongst the many examples of Victorian silver and Georgian silver to be offered in the sale. The George V silver three piece tea set, Sheffield 1933 (Est £400-£450) is a example of the later silver on offer, in comparison to the Charles II silver cup by William Grundy, 1680 (Est £1,500-£2,000).
George Jones is a name that many people recognise as one of the main Victorian producers of majolica wares from the 19th century. Included within the ceramics section of the sale is a typical example of a late Victorian majolica nut dish with all the George Jones traits and workmanship that should surpass its £100-£150 pre-sale estimate.
A William IV mahogany secretaire bookcase (Est £350-£500) is included within the furniture section, along with many other pieces of Victorian and Georgian furniture to be offered.
The auction is on view on Saturday, 10th March 2012 March from 9:00am – 12:00 noon and Monday, 12th March 2012 from 9:00am – 7:00pm and the sale commences at 10.00am on Tuesday, 13th March 2012.
