Biography

Richard Bearne is the Chairman of Bearnes Hampton & Littlewood. He is also Head of the Books and Manuscripts Department.

Richard Bearne's involvement with Bearne's (one of the two predecessor firms of Bearnes Hampton & Littlewood) founded by his grandparents and developed by his father, started in childhood with a fascination for clocks and mechanical musical instruments. After a brief flirtation with the theatre and an honours degree in Theatre Studies, he joined Bearne's in 1987 and worked in most of the specialist departments before concentrating on books, furniture and general valuation work.

He joined the board of directors of Bearne's in 1994 and became chairman of the company in 2002. He is now the chairman of Bearnes Hampton Littlewood, which was formed after the merger of Bearne's with Hampton & Littlewood in 2009.

The example of client service, thorough research and attention to detail set by his forbears remains an important inspiration for his work with Bearnes Hampton & Littlewood.

Richard is still occasionally lured to the amateur stage in an acting or directing capacity.
