A fine and unusual Victorian carved walnut presentation wheelbarrow with plated mounts, labelled J & W Cookes, Warwick, Manufacturers to Her Majesty, the barrow with applied silver metal monograms to the interior and shaped sides, further decorated with flowerheads, the elongated handles and splayed scroll and foliate legs applied with paterae, the wheel with an openwork flowerhead design and metal band, 132cm (4ft 4in) overall length, some restoration.

Lot Description

A fine and unusual Victorian carved walnut presentation wheelbarrow with plated mounts, labelled J & W Cookes, Warwick, Manufacturers to Her Majesty, the barrow with applied silver metal monograms to the interior and shaped sides, further decorated with flowerheads, the elongated handles and splayed scroll and foliate legs applied with paterae, the wheel with an openwork flowerhead design and metal band, 132cm (4ft 4in) overall length, some restoration.

Notes

- Messrs Cookes & Sons, Warwick exhibited a magnificent elaborately carved 'Buffet' in the 1851 Great Exhibition, which was much admired at the time.
