Sale Notes

The upcoming Antiques & Interiors Sale on Tuesday, 23rd October 2018 includes a strong picture section, a range of vintage Minty bookcases, gold sovereigns and over 500 lots ranging from £30 and upwards.

Watercolours by Frederick John Widgery have dropped back in value over the last few years and so the view of the North Devon Coast at Linton (EX218/261) that may have made over £200 ten years ago, is offered with an estimate of £80-£120. The Widgery will hang alongside another 50 plus pictures in including a 20th Century oil Stiil Life of Flowers by Hans Pawlitschek (EX218/259), who was born in 1909. This comes in a good quality contemporary frame and is also estimated at £80-£120.

With a slightly higher estimate is a watercolour by William Cruikshank (EX218/260), who was born in the 1840s. The subject is a typical natural still life with fruit and the added touch of a bumble bee, the estimate is £100-£150. And from the 20th Century, two Art Deco influenced gouache designs (EX218/258) have a strong illustrative quality and are estimated at just £30-£50.

Among the Works of Art, the Archaic shape of a Chinese bronze Jue (EX218/296) catches the eye. Jue is the traditional tripod shape for a Chinese ritual artefact used in ceremonies to serve and share wine. The style of this bronze example dates back to the Ming Dynasty and is estimated at £50-£100.

There is also a collection of several lots of Moorcroft China in the sale. One of the lots consists of a matched pair of 22cm bulbous vases, one in the green Hibiscus pattern, the other in the navy blue Pansies pattern (EX218/21). These are estimated at £150-£200 for the pair.
