Sale Notes

Bearnes Hampton & Littlewood's penultimate sale of 2017 has a distinct feel of the Roaring Twenties with the inclusion of a delightful Art Deco liqueur set (EX197/207). The shape and style of both the decanter and the small 'tot' glasses makes it stand out from the 'onion' form decanters of the Edwardian period and the distinct black and white decoration conjures images of early Jazz clubs. Though not signed by a particular maker, its style alone should help it to the upper end of its £60-£100 estimate.

Also from the same era is the Clarice Cliff 'My Garden' pattern vase (EX197/279). Once again its shape and colours are a departure from the stiff traditional Edwardian period and a vibrant celebration of life in the period immediately after the First World War.

As well as a good selection of ceramics , glass, silver and jewellery to be offered in the sale, there is also a range of furniture and works of art. A Victorian figured walnut tea caddy(EX197/395) is a nice example that could easily be 'up-cycled' for storing keys, USBs or even phone charger cables, or heaven's forbid your favourite blend of teabags!

Oriental pieces are still in demand with International buyers. With both the Chinese blue and white cup and saucer and the Japanese folding fruit knife included in the sale, the saleroom in Exeter will once again be making its mark on the world market for antiques.
