Sale Notes

Bearnes Hampton & Littlewood's first sale of the New Year is being held in their Okehampton Street premises on the 5th January 2016.

Included are items of interest to collectors or just those wishing to furnish their houses with unusual and stylish items at reasonable cost.

At the cutting edge of current revivals is an Ercol lounge suite estimated at £120-£180 (EX151/435), a nest of Ercol 'Pebble' occasional tables estimated at £80-£120 (EX151/438) and a G-Plan Inglesants dining suite (EX151/436) . An attractive modern all-leather day bed is available at £100-£150 (EX151/434) but being of timeless design it would suit any home.

If your taste runs to the more glamorous, there is a selection of giltwood furniture to tempt you, including a Regency-style dressing stool (EX151/443), a French gilt and upholstered armchair (EX151/428) and a pair of quite impressive throne chairs (EX151/422).

In the silver section are a pair of charming bon-bon dishes made in Sheffield in 1895 (EX151/188), a lot including two claret jugs with silver-plated mounts (EX151/183) and a number of candlesticks. Too late to grace the festive table, but be ready for next year!

Other collectable highlights include a very pretty French porcelain cabaret set decorated with panels of figures on a pink ground, estimated at only £80-£120 (EX151/67). Also noteworthy are a pair of samplers dated 1860, worked presumably by sisters Mary and Sarah Grant, again estimated at £80-£120 (EX151/308).

There is a good selection of pictures in this sale including a group of abstract paintings by local artist Rowland Hill. For those who prefer more representational art there is a charming watercolour of Dartmoor by Charles Edward Brittan (EX151/135) or, more exotically, two signed prints by Sir William Russell Flint.
