Sale Notes

Bearnes Hampton & Littlewood's Antiquarian Books, Maps and Prints Acution on the 23rd March2016  is one of the largest held in recent years. It includes an extensive collection of material relating to Devon and Cornwall, which is coming onto the market for the first time in many years: FC Christian's The Scenery of the Rivers Tamar and Tavy, which is bound with Picturesque Scenery on the River Dart (BK15/336), is a very attractive work and is estimated at £400-£600. No collection of West Country books would be complete without a copy of the Lysons' Magna Britannia (BK15/338), but this time more unusually we have the section dedicated to Cornwall, not Devon.

There is a splendid selection of sporting books, chiefly relating to angling, including at least three copies of Walton & Cotton's Complete Angler, one in a particularly attractive binding (BK15/527).

China is well-represented as a subject: there is a very attractive map of the China coast in an elegant morocco folder (BK15/583). A four-volume set of 19th century views in China after Thomas Allom (BK15/389) is available with an estimate of £400-£600.

There are a large number of prints and maps in this sale, including some panoramas: one depicting Epson race course (BK15/663) and another depicting Plymouth (BK15/664).
