Sale Notes

Royalty is a theme running through the Book Sale on 20th February 2013.

There are two separate documents signed by the ill-fated Charles I as well as a much rarer signed document by James I (1566-1625) the first of the Stuart monarchs. More important still is a document signed by James Francis Edward Stuart, father of 'Bonnie Prince Charlie'. Bringing us more up-to-date are a group of Christmas cards signed by Price Charles and the late Diana, Princess of Wales.

Also included are the papers, personal notebooks, letters, etc, of the Bishop of Barbados (1789-1849). This lot also includes letters from Lord Bathurst and Gladstone with bids in excess of £500.

Items associated with Samuel Taylor Coleridge are also here, most notably a family Bible with annotations by the poet, expected to fetch £2,000-£3,000.

As well as many interesting works of literature, such as the rare Gothic novel 'Melmoth the Wander' by Charles Maturin, there is an interesting selection of maps by Speed, Blaeu, Ogilby, etc.
