A late 17th Century Ebonised Bracket Clock (FS41/896) by by John Knibb of Oxon is being offered in our Two Day Fine Art Sale starting on 29th January 2019 at our salerooms in Exeter, Devon.
It is always quite a task to pick out a small section of lots from the forthcoming fine art sale to mention in the preview of the auction, because there are always such a vast array of items on offer and the sale in January (FS41) is no exception.
Day One of the auction on Tuesday, 29th January 2019 starts off with 135 lots of silver, including a Victorian silver three-piece tea service by the maker Robert Hennell III (FS41/110). Crested and of squat globular form with embossed fruit and foliate and scroll decoration and weighing 47.11ozs, it is expected to fetch £400-£600, whilst a George III silver wine funnel by Hester Bateman, London 1787 (FS41/135) of traditional design and weighing 2.29ozs is inviting bids of £600-£700.
The jewellery follows, with as always, some beautiful pieces. Highlights of this section of the auction include a 20th Century diamond solitaire ring (FS41/229) with a centre stone estimated to weigh 1.9cts, between baguette cut diamond shoulders and contained in a fitted maroon 'Asprey' box, which is inviting bids of £3,000-£4,000 and a graduated diamond triple cluster ring (FS41/230), the principal brilliant cut diamonds estimated to weigh 0.80ct, 1.45cts and 0.85cts, mounted in platinum with a ring size Q½ is estimated at £5,000-£6,000.
Day One of the auction concludes with the paintings, where a striking oil on canvas by Robert Cleminson (act 1864–1903) titled Monarch of the Glen, signed and dated 1877 (FS41/328) is estimated at £1,500-£2,000 and another oil on canvas by Arnold (late 18th Century) (FS41/282) of a young child standing wearing a white tunic with blue sash and red slippers, working a mechanical pipe-music machine is inviting bids of £1,000-£1,500.
Day Two on Wednesday, 30th January 2019 commences with the ceramics in the sale, where a Chinese blue and white vase of baluster form from a private collection by descent through the Blackett/Adnams family (FS41/519) is inviting bids of £20,000-£40,000 and a fine early 19th Century Coalport botanical part dessert service (FS41/644), which is estimated at £500-£800.

The works of art, as always, has a diverse range of lots including a large 19th Century copper measuring jug, together with eight near matching graduated measuring jugs (FS41/816), which is being offered with a pre-sale estimate of £600-£800 and a late 17th Century ebonised bracket clock by John Knibb of Oxon (FS41/896) of phase IV design with eight day duration that is estimated at £30,000-£40,000.
The final section of the auction is furniture, rugs and carpets. Amongst the highlights are a Queen Anne walnut and feather banded escritoire (FS41/985) with an estimate of £1,000 £15,000, a mid 18th Century Philadelphia Chippendale design carved mahogany dining chair (FS41/1006) with an estimate of £2,000-£3,000 and a Regency mahogany breakfront library bookcase (FS41/1017) with a pre-sale estimate of £4,000-£6,000.
