There is a strong railway theme to our next sporting and collectors’ auction on Wednesday, 19th February 2014, together with many interesting lots for the modelling enthusiast and collector alike.

In the O gauge railway model section, we have an extensive private collection of Bassett Lowke locomotives, rolling stock and trackside accessories. John Granger has been a prolific railway modeller, collector and member of the Basset Lowke Society, building a large layout in his Devon home and it is with A tinge of sadness and downsizing that John has decided to sell the collection.

Amongst the attractions is a 3-rail Electric 4-6-2 locomotive No 46232 'Duchess of Montrose' with smoke deflectors and six wheel tender in BR green livery, which has an estimate of £1,000-£1,500.

A 3-rail electric 4-4-2 tank locomotive No 9 in Midland & Great Northern (MGNR) mustard livery is believed to have been part 
        of Bassett Lowke's last special order in 1964 (SC18/752). The estimate is £250-£350.

Another model of particular note is a 3-rail Electric 4-4-2 tank locomotive No 9 in Midland & Great Northern mustard livery, which is believed to have formed part of Bassett Lowke's last special order in 1964. See Fuller, Bassett Lowke Story, page 103, plate 134. The estimate is £250-£350.

In addition to locomotives, there are two carriages worthy of special attention - not by Basset Lowke this time - the pair of Exley matching LNWR brown and cream twelve-wheeled clerestory roofed coaches: 'Dining Saloon' and 'Sleeping Saloon', which are estimated at £600-£800.

John Granger's collection forms 67 lots as part of the O gauge section of the sale. Not to be outdone, OO/HO gauge model railways are well represented with over 250 lots of near mint and boxed loco's and rolling stock. Mostly by Hornby but with significant numbers of Bachmann, Wrenn and others present. Older Hornby Dublo sets are also included. The vast majority of the items are from a single owner collection in North Somerset.

        this Hornby limited edition 'The Mid-day Scot Train Set', with 4-6-2 locomotive 'City of Leeds' with six wheel tender and three passenger coaches (SC18/486). Estimate:  £40-£60.

Other sections of the sporting and collectors sale include Corgi, Dinky and other diecast models, together with another great blast from the past Airfix and a little remembered company Eaglewall plastic construction kits. Kits include boats, aircraft, tanks and those tiny figures that clogged up your mother's hoover!
