Biography of the artist Yana Trevail (born 1958)

Since the mid 1990s Yana Trevail (born 1958), who attended Plymouth College of Art and Wimbledon School of Art, has exhibited widely and received a number of awards for her work.

Trevail has exhibited regularly at the Mall Galleries in London, winning the Chairman's prize in 2001, and held her first solo exhibition in Plymouth in 2004, followed by further solo shows in 2009 and 2010.

Her painting White Chair invites the viewer to observe a single subject and demands a response to the narrative of an empty chair and dead flowers. In the artist's own words "through the stillness and isolation of these objects I am trying to accentuate the physical presence and energy of them".
